Mourinho Questions Alexander-Arnold's Midfield Role Despite Real Madrid Win

Jose Mourinho has stated that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not a midfielder, despite the 27-year-old playing in that position for Real Madrid's 2-1 Champions League victory over Inter Milan.

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold played in midfield for Real Madrid's 2-1 Champions League win against Inter Milan.
  • Jose Mourinho believes Alexander-Arnold's qualities are best suited for a full-back position.
  • Alexander-Arnold was filling in due to suspensions for Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Guler, and Bernardo Silva.

Jose Mourinho has cast doubt on Trent Alexander-Arnold's long-term future in midfield, even after the English right-back featured there for Real Madrid's 2-1 Champions League win against Inter Milan. Madrid secured the victory with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made crucial saves.

Alexander-Arnold, 27, started in midfield alongside Denzel Dumfries at right-back. He had a quiet game before being substituted for Aurelien Tchouameni in the second half. Mourinho acknowledged Alexander-Arnold's effort, stating: "I thank Trent Alexander-Arnold for his efforts to play in a position that is not his."

Mourinho further clarified his stance, adding: "It's very clear that his qualities are made for the full-back position, not for midfield. He has played midfield with England and Liverpool ... but he is not a midfielder." Alexander-Arnold was deployed in midfield due to suspensions for Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Guler, and Bernardo Silva.
