The Oval Invincibles, one of The Hundred's most successful teams, have been rebranded as MI London following investment from the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Mumbai Indians. Reliance Industries Limited, chaired by Mukesh Ambani, acquired a 49% stake in the team for approximately £60m in January 2025.
The rebranding includes a change in name and team colours, now incorporating the blue and gold associated with the Mumbai Indians' global network. Despite the changes, Surrey remains the major shareholder. Surrey chief executive Steve Elworthy stated that the relationship with the Ambani family began before the bidding process, with the family having supported The Hundred for several years.
MI London is now valued at around £120m, making it the second most valuable franchise in The Hundred, behind London Spirit, which is valued at approximately £300m. The investment is expected to bring commercial expertise and global reach to the franchise, with plans to develop MI London into a year-round brand.
On the field, coaching staff changes include Kieron Pollard replacing Tom Moody as men's head coach and Lisa Keightley succeeding Jonathan Batty for the women's side. However, players like England all-rounder Will Jacks noted that the transition felt smooth, with training kits still featuring Invincibles colours.
Surrey and MI are planning for the future, aiming for MI London to exist as a brand throughout the year, not just during the summer competition. The club is also considering taking greater responsibility for operational aspects, such as ticketing, from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) starting in 2027.
