A brutal and premeditated stabbing on a doorstep has left a North Ayrshire community reeling. Marshall Strachan and Kieran Lindsay, both 21-year-olds from the local area, have been convicted of murdering John Taylor, a 44-year-old father-of-two who lived just metres away.
The attack, which occurred at approximately 11pm on 18 October 2024, was witnessed by Taylor's friend and neighbour, Fiona Houston. According to Houston's testimony, one of the perpetrators punched Taylor after an altercation, before both men proceeded to stab him. Despite the prompt arrival of medical services, Taylor succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
Prosecutor Erin Campbell described the crime as a 'targeted' assault, with the pair deliberately attempting to destroy evidence. The investigation revealed that Lindsay and Strachan were driven to the scene by 29-year-old Kiey O'Connor, who was subsequently charged with being concerned in the supply of drugs in Ayrshire.
Judge Lord Arthurson has described the crime as 'one of the gravest' in Scottish law, stating that both men will face life imprisonment. The sentencing has been deferred pending background reports on the pair, who are first-time offenders. They remain in custody until further notice.
Det Supt Graham McCreadie expressed his thoughts with Taylor's loved ones and praised the community for their cooperation during the investigation. He added that the perpetrators now 'face the consequences of their actions', bringing some closure to those affected by this tragic event.
