Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation after human bones were uncovered in Bedfont Lakes Country Park, Hounslow, following a wildfire. Emergency services were called to the west London park at approximately 18:35 BST on Wednesday, 12 August.
A police spokesperson stated that a member of the public found the remains after the wildfire impacted an area of woodland known as The Pits. A post-mortem examination revealed the bones belonged to a woman aged between 25 and 45. Police said it is not yet clear how long the remains had been there, and officers are working to identify her.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation, urged anyone with information to come forward. The London Fire Brigade reported that four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a grass fire at the park on 5 August, which damaged about two hectares of shrubland.
