Murphy and Ding reach English Open snooker semi-finals

Shaun Murphy, the world number seven, secured a final-frame victory against fellow English player Judd Trump, world number three, to reach the semi-finals of the English Open. Murphy moved 5-4 ahead before Trump cleared 112 to force a decider, which Murphy won with safety play.

Murphy will face Mark Williams in the semi-finals. Williams booked his spot with a 6-3 victory over Liam Davies, pulling clear after being level at 2-2 at the interval.

In other quarter-final matches, China's Ding Junhui cruised to a 6-2 victory over England's Kyren Wilson, who was scoreless in the first three frames. Ding will play Ali Carter, who came from 5-3 down to beat Zhou Yuelong 6-5, winning three frames in a row.

Both semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, 12 September 2026. Ding will play Carter at 12:00 BST, followed by Murphy facing Williams at 18:00 BST.
