Scotland was set ablaze with excitement as My Chemical Romance unleashed a sonic storm in Glasgow last Saturday (July 4). The moment of pure pandemonium arrived when Gerard Way introduced 'AMBULANCE', a track that had been locked away like a secret treasure, waiting for the perfect moment to be unleashed upon the masses. And what better way to break its live debut than at Bellahouston Park, part of their 'Black Parade' UK tour, which has been building momentum towards its grand finale at London's Wembley Stadium.
The 25-song setlist was a masterclass in nostalgia, as the band tore through their seminal 2006 album, 'The Black Parade', from start to finish. But it wasn't just about revisiting old favourites – Gerard Way and co. also brought out some of their most-loved tracks from their broader discography. And that's when the magic happened: 'AMBULANCE' was finally let loose on an unsuspecting crowd, its origin story expertly teased by Way before he confirmed it was making its live debut.
'AMBULANCE', you see, is a track with a bit of history – it originates from the band's 2013 'Conventional Weapons' EP, a collection of material that was initially shelved prior to the release of their 2010 album, 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys'. It served as the A-side to the second single from the EP, with 'Gun' as its B-side. So, for long-time followers, this inclusion in the Glasgow set was a major coup – and proof that My Chemical Romance is still pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
It follows another recent rarity, with the band having played 'Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back' for the first time in nearly four years during their tour's opening night at Anfield stadium on June 30. The current UK leg of the 'Black Parade' tour has been met with critical acclaim – including a five-star review for their Anfield performance from NME, which praised the band's enduring energy and Way's powerful vocals.
My Chemical Romance is also gearing up to release a deluxe edition reissue of 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys' on Friday (July 10), featuring additional content including their recently shared cover of Pulp's 'Common People'. Following their UK and European commitments, the band will embark on a series of significant dates across the US and South America – but for now, they're basking in the glow of a triumphant Glasgow show.
