National Grid has launched a new £5 million fund, named the 'Power Within Employability Fund', to help 5,000 young people who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET) find work over the next five years. This initiative will support up to 1,000 young people per year across the UK, starting in the first half of next year.
The fund will provide practical training, qualifications, mentoring, and skills support, with a focus on careers in the energy and infrastructure sectors. It aims to help participants develop the skills, qualifications, and confidence needed for long-term career opportunities.
Specific support offered includes practical assistance to access work, such as help to gain a driving licence if transport is a barrier. It will also cover industry-recognised qualifications like Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards, dedicated employability coaching, and job readiness training covering CV writing and interview preparation.
