National Trust card offers free entry to 1,000 sites in 80 countries

National Trust members can use their cards for free or discounted entry to over 1,000 sites across 80 nations and territories worldwide, thanks to reciprocal agreements.

  • National Trust cards provide access to more than 1,000 sites globally.
  • The International National Trusts Organisation (INTO) facilitates reciprocal agreements among its 106 members.
  • Members can find participating sites and terms on the INTO website and individual heritage organisation sites.

National Trust members can access over 1,000 sites in 80 nations and territories worldwide for free or at a discount. This benefit extends beyond the 500 properties in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and existing agreements with National Trust for Scotland and An Taisce in Ireland.

The International National Trusts Organisation (INTO), a "global family of heritage trusts," enables these reciprocal agreements. All 106 INTO members, including the UK's National Trust, allow visits from members of other participating organisations.

This means a UK National Trust member visiting Italy, for example, could gain free access to sites run by Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI). Examples of savings include free entry to Italian castles, gardens, and villas, which typically charge 9 to 15 euros per adult ticket. In Canada, savings could exceed $20 (around £10) at Craigdarroch Castle, and in Australia, a visit to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary could save $70 AUD per adult.

To utilise this, members should check the INTO website for participating organisations in their destination. They can then visit the relevant organisation's website for a list of sites offering free or discounted entry, or contact the organisation directly for details.

What this means for you: If you are a National Trust member, you could use your membership card to gain free or discounted entry to heritage sites when travelling abroad.
