Three dedicated individuals from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group have been celebrated in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours list, receiving prestigious accolades for their exceptional service. The honours recognise their profound impact on the UK's nuclear sector and their invaluable contributions to local communities.
Dr Rebecca Weston FREng, while on secondment from the NDA group, has been appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) for her services to defence. In her role as Director General at the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Nuclear Organisation, Dr Weston was instrumental in leading a highly regulated and complex programme crucial for the UK's long-term strategic resilience and its nuclear deterrent capabilities.
Also recognised is Becky Ruddy, Senior Programme Director at NRS Dounreay, who has been awarded an MBE. Her honour is a testament to her significant services to women in the nuclear industry. Ms Ruddy has consistently acted as a powerful role model, actively championing opportunities, providing support for women, and promoting the industry on both national and international platforms. Her career journey within the NDA group began as a scientific apprentice at Sellafield, progressing through various operational and management roles to reach senior leadership positions.
Thelma MacKenzie, an administrator at Dounreay, also received an MBE for her voluntary and public service to the community in Caithness. Ms MacKenzie holds the distinction of being a Special Police Constable since 1980, making her one of the country's longest-serving special constables. Her decades of commitment to public service underscore the profound impact individuals can have within their local areas.
David Peattie, CEO of the NDA Group, extended his heartfelt congratulations to all three recipients.
