Tens of thousands of residents near Reno, Nevada, have been instructed to evacuate as a large wildfire reaches the city's outskirts. Approximately 42,000 people have received immediate evacuation orders, while a further 45,000 have been urged to prepare for potential evacuation.
Officials reported that the fire, which began on Saturday morning, has injured six people, including three emergency responders. Windy and unpredictable weather conditions are contributing to its spread, with the blaze having burned around 10,500 acres and remaining completely uncontained as of Sunday evening.
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has declared a state of emergency in Washoe County and ordered the National Guard to assist with firefighting and law enforcement efforts. The governor urged those in affected areas to remain vigilant and follow official directions. All Washoe County schools, except one, will be closed on Monday, and significant road closures are in effect.
