A former Netflix engineer has made headlines with the release of an app that could revolutionise the way businesses use artificial intelligence (AI). Project Headroom, developed by Craig Chandler, aims to make AI work more efficiently and reduce waste by up to 70%.
According to Chandler, the app was originally designed to help Netflix reduce its AI computing costs, which were estimated to be around 70% of the company's overall compute budget.
Project Headroom uses a technique called 'model pruning' to remove unnecessary calculations from AI models, allowing them to run more efficiently and reducing the amount of energy required to power them.
The app has already gained attention from tech industry experts, who see its potential to transform the way businesses use AI. 'This is a game-changer for businesses that rely on AI,' said Dr. Emma Jones, AI expert and professor at the University of Cambridge. 'By reducing waste and costs, Project Headroom could help businesses achieve more with their AI investments.'
Chandler's decision to open source Project Headroom has also sparked excitement in the tech community. 'By making the technology open source, Craig has given anyone the opportunity to use and modify Project Headroom,' said tech entrepreneur and investor, Alex Froud. 'This could lead to a new wave of innovation and entrepreneurship in the AI space.'
