A new iOS application named Reelful is set to revolutionise how individuals and businesses create short-form video content for platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. The app, which leverages artificial intelligence, automatically transforms existing photos and video clips from a user's camera roll into polished, ready-to-share social media videos. This innovation is specifically designed to assist those who find traditional video editing software too intricate or time-consuming.
Reelful's functionality begins with users entering a textual prompt outlining the desired narrative for their video, whether it's a travel summary, a product demonstration, or an event highlight. Following this, users record a brief 30-second voice sample to create a personalised AI voice clone, and then select relevant media from their device. The AI then takes over, planning the video's structure, generating a script, adding an AI-driven voiceover, and assembling the final edit complete with captions, background music, and sound effects. A notable feature is its ability to animate still images, turning a photograph into a short video clip, with all AI-generated video content clearly marked with a watermark.
The app's founder, Kate Deyneka, a former machine learning engineer at Snapchat who contributed to video and image model development, developed Reelful to create an 'agentic' video editor. Her vision was to eliminate the labour-intensive aspects of video production, such as manual clip selection, effect application, voiceover recording, and detailed editing. Deyneka, currently participating in a16z’s Speedrun programme, noted her own struggle to create content amidst a busy schedule, identifying a common challenge for entrepreneurs and active individuals.
Reelful offers both one-off purchase options for video credits and tiered subscription plans. Users can acquire bundles of five videos for approximately £12, 15 videos for around £34, or 33 videos for roughly £71. Monthly subscription plans include the 'Creator' plan at about £20 for 10 videos, the 'Pro' plan at approximately £40 for 25 videos, and the 'Studio' plan, which provides 60 videos per month for around £80. While currently exclusive to iOS, future plans include expanding availability to Android and web platforms.
The app's launch signifies a broader industry trend where AI is increasingly automating creative processes, moving beyond traditional editing tools to intelligent agents capable of comprehensive content generation. Reelful joins a growing ecosystem of AI startups, including Opus Clip and Captions, that are actively redefining the landscape of content creation. This shift has significant implications for how businesses and individuals manage their digital presence and engage with their audiences online.
