Lepas, a new marque from Chinese automotive giant Chery, has introduced its L8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV to the UK market. The L8 is positioned as a premium SUV, combining styling, technology, and efficiency at a competitive price.
The L8 PHEV 'Essence' model is priced from £34,900, while the 'Elevate' flagship model starts at £37,900. Lepas UK Managing Director Ray Wang stated that every Lepas sold in the UK will be electrified, either as a plug-in hybrid or fully electric, with a battery-electric L8 planned for 2027.
The L8 PHEV features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and an 18.4kWh battery. Lepas claims the vehicle can achieve up to 56 miles of electric-only driving, a combined range of 745 miles, and fuel economy of 403.5mpg, with CO2 emissions of 21g/km.
Wang expressed a goal for Lepas to achieve a two per cent market share in the UK within 12 to 24 months, acknowledging that brand recognition and dealer network expansion are ongoing challenges.
