New Compliance Platform Aims to Protect Agents from Regulatory Fines
UKPulse Property Desk
The Guild of Property Professionals has launched a new compliance management platform called Compliance Guardian, designed to help estate and letting agents navigate increasing regulatory requirements.
- Compliance Guardian provides a centralised platform for agents to monitor regulatory obligations and track key deadlines
- The system allows users to store documentation and receive automated reminders when renewals or actions are due
- The launch comes as regulatory demands on agents continue to increase, with potential financial penalties for missed deadlines
The financial sting of non-compliance can be a harsh one for estate agents: HMRC's penalties have reached as much as £55,000. To mitigate this risk, The Guild of Property Professionals has launched Compliance Guardian, a new platform to help agents navigate the increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
Paul Offley, compliance officer at The Guild, warns that many agents underestimate the potential consequences of missing deadlines for regulations such as Anti-Money Laundering (AML) supervision, Professional Indemnity Insurance, and Client Money Protection. HMRC calculates fines based on business turnover during the period an agent was unsupervised.
The launch of Compliance Guardian expands The Guild's compliance support offering, designed to help members manage the growing burden of regulatory requirements. Offley explains that the system simplifies the process by providing clear visibility of upcoming deadlines, secure document storage, and timely reminders.
Why this matters: This new platform could be a game-changer for UK estate and letting agents, helping them avoid costly regulatory fines and stay on the right side of the law.
What this means for you: What this means for you: As a property owner or potential buyer/seller, you'll benefit from working with agents who are equipped to navigate complex regulations and avoid fines that could impact your sale or rental experience.
