A new dating app named Rivet, which launched last week, is allowing a random group of volunteers to select matches for its users. Taru Kapoor, the app's founder and a former Tinder executive, explained that this method "surfaces a lot of people that you may otherwise swipe past."
The app presents prospective daters with a few options at a time, rather than a large number of profiles. Kapoor stated that this approach is intended to prioritise quality over quantity and encourage users to consider individuals who might not be their usual type.
Kapoor also commented on the objectivity of outsiders in matchmaking, saying, "It's very easy for most of us to look at a friend who may be dating the wrong person and ask: 'Why?'" She added that "People also tend to be more objective and rational when they're outsiders looking in on someone else's life.”
