New England towns provided backdrop for Emmy-winning series Widow's Bay

The comedy-horror series Widow's Bay, which recently won 14 Emmys, was filmed in various coastal towns across New England, despite being set in a fictional location.

  • Widow's Bay, an Apple TV series, won 14 Emmys, a first for the comedy-horror genre.
  • Filming locations included Rockport, Berlin, Gloucester, Maynard, and Sudbury in New England.
  • The show's creator aimed to keep the fictional island's exact location vague, drawing inspiration from Stephen King novels.

The Emmy-winning comedy-horror series Widow's Bay, which premiered in April, used several real-life New England towns as its filming locations. The Apple TV series, set in the fictional town of Widow's Bay, recently made history at the Emmys by taking home 14 awards.

Creator Katie Dippold intentionally kept the fictional island's location a mystery, stating she was inspired by the eeriness of Stephen King novels. Actor Matthew Rhys noted that New England's history enriched the series.

Fans can visit locations such as Rockport, where Old Harbour Road served as the town centre and The Salty Whale restaurant is located at 14 Old Harbour Road. Berlin Town Hall stood in for Widow's Bay Town Hall, while Gloucester's Lanes Cove was used as the Harbour Master's Office and Half Moon Beach featured in a swimming scene.

Other filming spots include the Lorenzo Maynard House in Maynard for spooky exteriors and the Martha-Mary Chapel in Sudbury for a storyline involving the Reverend.

What this means for you: You can visit specific New England towns and locations to retrace filming spots from the series.
