The New Forest is currently experiencing a delay in the emergence of its autumn colours, with the landscape remaining largely green. Observations indicate that there is more colour on the ground than in the trees.
Ferns have transitioned through shades of gold and copper to rusty red, while bramble and bilberry patches show crimson hues. Fungi in various colours, including white, yellow, brown, and purply red, dot the green tracks. Pale yellow tormentil trails across the grass.
The white beam trees have largely shed their scarlet berries, which were noted in bunches a week ago, with only a few remaining or scattered on the ground. Spanish chestnuts have opened, revealing their nuts.
