New heatwave expected across central and western Europe next week

Central and western Europe is forecast to experience another pulse of heat next week, with temperatures in the high 30s Celsius expected across several countries.

  • Daily maximum temperatures in the high 30s Celsius are forecast for France, Spain, and Italy during the first half of next week.
  • Germany, Poland, and Czechia are expected to experience the highest temperatures towards the end of next week.
  • Record-breaking temperatures have already been recorded in Austria and Slovakia this summer.

Central and western Europe is bracing for another pulse of heat next week, with forecast models indicating daily maximum temperatures well into the high 30s Celsius. France, Spain, and Italy are expected to see these high temperatures during the first half of the week.

Towards the end of next week, the focus of the heat is predicted to shift, with Germany, Poland, and Czechia experiencing the highest temperatures. This movement of warm air is attributed to the shifting position of high pressure across the continent.

This summer has seen unrelenting heat across the region. Austria recorded an all-time high of 41.0C in Stammersdorf on 4 August, which was then surpassed the following day with 41.2C in Deutsch-Altenburg. Slovakia also set a new all-time record of 41.4C on the same day.
