Two new ieGeek baby monitor cameras, the Baby 1T and Baby 5, provide options for both a dedicated parent screen and app-based viewing. This dual functionality allows families to use a direct link for monitoring at home and a WiFi connection for checking in remotely.
The ieGeek Baby 1T pairs a 2K camera with a 5-inch parent screen. It includes features such as cry, noise, and motion alerts, as well as temperature and humidity readings. The camera can pan 355° and tilt 60°, allowing remote adjustment of the view.
The ieGeek Baby 5 features a 2.5K camera and a 5.5-inch rechargeable parent unit. This model supports dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) for app connectivity and can display two cameras on a split screen. It also lists alerts for face covering and prone sleeping.
Both ieGeek models covered use plug-in cameras, meaning they require a power socket and their cables should be kept out of a baby's reach. The National Cyber Security Centre advises securing WiFi camera accounts with strong passwords and enabling automatic updates.
The Lullaby Trust states that there is no research indicating baby monitors prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and that monitors do not replace parental supervision. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency classifies most breathing and movement monitors as medical devices, but this does not apply to conventional audio-visual monitors.
