However, the TSA has warned that not all carry-on items may fit through the new machines. A TSA spokesperson told FOX 13 that the new CT scanners feature a smaller opening, which is necessary for the advanced imaging technology to function correctly.
While most airlines allow carry-on bags up to 22 by 14 by 9 inches, bags exceeding these dimensions may encounter difficulties with the new scanners and could require travellers to check them. The TSA recommends adhering to airline bag size guidelines to avoid potential issues.
On a positive note, the new scanners can check bags without requiring travellers to remove laptops and other electronic devices. They also provide a three-dimensional view of bag contents, which the agency states could reduce the number of bags needing manual inspection.
