The Mayor's comments come just five days after candidates he endorsed secured nominations for three congressional seats in New York and five state legislature positions in Albany.

Mamdani highlighted several concrete achievements in New York City as evidence of his approach, including a rent freeze for approximately one million apartments and the introduction of free childcare for two-year-olds – a first in the city's history. He also mentioned the repair of 165,000 potholes, presenting these accomplishments as proof that democratic socialism is fundamentally pragmatic. If such policies cannot deliver for working people, then their purpose is questionable, he argued.
The Mayor criticised the established party leadership for failing to offer a positive vision and for merely relying on opposition to former President Donald Trump, stressing the need for policies relevant to working Americans.
