New South Wales police are seeking information after the body of a newborn baby boy was discovered in a rubbish bin in Auburn, Sydney's south-west, on Monday morning.

Emergency services responded to reports of a baby's body in a rubbish bin along Harrow Road at 11:20 am. Officers from the Auburn police area command subsequently found the body of a newborn boy.

A crime scene has been established, and detectives have begun an investigation into the incident. Police have stated they hold "serious concerns" for the welfare of the baby's mother and have urged her to attend the nearest hospital for urgent care.

Anyone with information, or who was in the area at the time and may have relevant dashcam or mobile footage, is asked to contact Auburn police station or Crime Stoppers.
