NFL player Terrion Arnold, a 23-year-old cornerback for the Detroit Lions, has been arrested in connection with an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery. According to authorities, external investigators believe Arnold was the "primary conspirator" behind a targeted armed robbery that occurred on 4th February, involving three adult males in their late teens.
The incident is linked to a theft at an Airbnb rented by Arnold in Largo, Florida, where personal property valued at over £190,000 was stolen. Police claim Arnold suspected two of the three victims in the subsequent alleged kidnapping were responsible for this theft. Documents reveal that Arnold and some of his six co-defendants allegedly lured the teenagers to a Tampa apartment, where they were "battered, held at gunpoint, and pistol-whipped" before their personal property was stolen and they were ordered to leave.
Details from the police report indicate that one defendant allegedly streamed the incident to Arnold and two others while travelling to the apartment. A group chat was reportedly established for directions during the assault. The victims positively identified the suspects, and investigators determined the victims were not involved in the original Airbnb theft. Six other males were arrested between 4th February and 21st March in connection with the alleged kidnapping.
Arnold turned himself in on Wednesday and now faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office has indicated that these charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison. Arnold's representatives have denied the accusations, claiming there is "no credible evidence" linking him to the allegations.
Denise White, chief executive of EAG Sports Management, stated: "The government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences." She added that Arnold "looks forward to his day in court" and is confident the judicial process will lead to his vindication.
