The UK's National Health Service (NHS) has begun to offer standup classes as a mental health intervention. These classes are part of the NHS's expanding "social prescribing" programme.
Under this programme, healthcare providers refer patients to non-clinical services and activities, such as exercise classes, art classes, or social services, to support holistic wellbeing.
Belina Raffy, an improv consultant and comedy coach, developed a course called Sustainable Stand Up. This course aims to help individuals working on social and environmental issues find humorous ways to share serious messages. She has taught this course internationally and online to various professionals, including Nasa climate scientists and human rights lawyers.
