Nic Maddinson has been recalled to the Australia Test squad for the first time since his recovery from testicular cancer. He will join the touring squad for the first Test against South Africa.
The 34-year-old was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April 2025, with the cancer reportedly spreading to his lung and lymph nodes. He completed chemotherapy in July 2025 and was given the all-clear eight weeks after his final treatment round, resuming full cricket training in September 2025.
Maddinson missed the early part of the 2025/26 season but later played five appearances in the Big Bash League. He recently scored 126 against Victoria in Australia's domestic one-day competition and has been made New South Wales captain for the 2026/27 Sheffield Shield season.
This marks Maddinson's return to the Australia Test team after nine years, having previously played three Tests in late 2016. He is now in contention for the first game of the three-match series, which is set to begin in Durban on Friday 9 October.
