Nintendo Switch 2 console owners will have the chance to experience FromSoftware's highly anticipated new game, 'The Duskbloods', ahead of its official launch. The Japanese developer, renowned for its critically acclaimed titles such as 'Elden Ring', is hosting a network test for the multiplayer-centric game next month.
'The Duskbloods' is an exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2, designed with a core focus on online player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) gameplay. The game was first revealed in April of last year during a major Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation and is expected to be released sometime in 2026, though a precise launch date has not yet been confirmed.
The upcoming network test is scheduled to run from 21 to 24 August. Interested players can register to participate from 22 July via the official network test website. FromSoftware has stated that the test will allow up to eight players to engage in multiplayer matches simultaneously while the game is still under development, acknowledging that participants may encounter bugs.
According to FromSoftware, the primary objectives of this early access period are to assess server load, fine-tune game balance, and identify any potential issues that may arise when numerous players interact across diverse network environments. This comprehensive testing aims to ensure a smoother experience upon the full release of the game.
Game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on the structure of 'The Duskbloods', describing a central 'hub' area where players can select and customise their characters before entering online multiplayer sessions. These online matches can accommodate up to eight players and, upon conclusion, players return to the hub to receive rewards, regardless of whether they win or lose. These rewards can then be used for further character customisation, perpetuating a continuous gameplay loop. While matches are typically last-player-standing, Miyazaki noted that some scenarios might feature different victory conditions, such as co-operative boss battles.
