American folk-pop sensation Noah Kahan has offered a sincere on-stage apology to thousands of fans after his highly anticipated Saturday night concert at New York's Citi Field was cancelled at the last minute. The 29-year-old Vermont singer-songwriter addressed the crowd during his rescheduled Sunday performance, expressing deep regret for the disruption caused by severe weather conditions.
Kahan's Saturday show, part of 'The Great Divide' tour, was initially delayed before being called off entirely due to storms sweeping through the area. Speaking to the audience on Sunday, Kahan stated, "I just want to apologise for the cancellation of our show last night." He acknowledged the inconvenience faced by fans who had travelled and waited in the rain, adding, "I’m so f***ing sorry for the folks that sat all day out in the rain and traveled. I’ve been thinking about you guys, and I’m really sorry."
The cancellation sparked considerable frustration among fans, many of whom took to social media to voice their disappointment. Complaints primarily centred on the timing of the decision, with some arguing that the announcement should have come earlier in the day. Despite parking lots opening at 4:30 p.m. and the stadium pushing back its opening to 7:30 p.m., the main performance was ultimately cancelled shortly after. Social media users criticised the lack of an immediate rescheduling option, with one fan remarking, "noah kahan not rescheduling is lowkey so selfish this show is legit dangerous and traveling is even worse."
Kahan, who has toured for nine years and played approximately 500 shows, assured fans that cancellations are extremely rare for him, noting only six in his career. He reiterated that such decisions are only made when there are no other viable options. "I promise you, I would play in a f***ing volcano, the hole of a volcano for y’all. And I, I’m so sorry," he passionately told the crowd, stressing that his sympathy lay with those who missed out. He also confirmed that extensive efforts were made to find a way to proceed or reschedule.
The singer is set to continue his North American tour through the end of August before embarking on international dates. His 'The Great Divide' tour includes stops in Australia, New Zealand, and notably, the UK and Europe. UK fans will be keenly watching for updates as Kahan's tour progresses, hoping for smooth sailing when he eventually crosses the Atlantic.
