Bollywood star Nora Fatehi is set to perform her official FIFA World Cup song, Siir Siir, at the Toronto opening ceremony. The Canadian-born artist, of Moroccan descent, hopes the song will bring unity and celebration to fans from around the world.
Fatehi's song is inspired by a Moroccan football chant, which means 'go, go'. She says she wants the song to become a global rallying call for all the teams in the tournament. 'This is the time where we see everyone from across the world, different countries that qualify, come and take centre stage,' Fatehi tells BBC Newsbeat.
The song, which features a mix of Moroccan Darija, Arabic, French, and English, was created alongside Vegedream and Sanjoy. The video for Siir Siir is shot in the streets of Morocco, reflecting how football evolves from kids playing in their neighborhoods to taking centre stage at huge arenas around the world.
Fatehi will be backing the Moroccan team during the World Cup, saying they are 'an African team, but they are also a team that went through hell and back to be where they're at right now'. The song is part of the official FIFA soundtrack, which features big names such as Shakira and Burna Boy.
