Landlords in North East Lincolnshire who have not yet applied for the selective licensing scheme will face a £200 late application fee if they fail to submit their application by October 8, 2026. The North East Lincolnshire Council's selective licensing scheme was launched in April 2026.
The council has stated that the £200 late application fee is not intended to be punitive or generate a profit. Instead, it is designed to cover the additional administrative and compliance costs associated with processing applications submitted after the initial six-month period.
The selective licensing scheme costs £1,000, with accredited landlords paying a reduced fee of £725. The council claims the five-year scheme aims to improve housing conditions and reduce anti-social behaviour. Landlords who miss the deadline may also face potential investigation and enforcement action.
To assist landlords, the council has worked with its delivery partner, Home Safe, offering resources such as a dedicated website, guidance notes, and one-to-one support sessions. Further one-to-one support sessions are scheduled for September 25 at Grimsby Town Hall.
