Northampton Saints are gearing up for the new Gallagher Premiership season with an ambition to secure consecutive titles, a challenge Director of Rugby Phil Dowson acknowledges has not been achieved by any club for a considerable time. Dowson stated, "No one has gone back-to-back for a long time. Why not us?"
The club has also undertaken significant off-field investment, including a seven-figure overhaul of the supporters' village at Franklin's Gardens. This transformation includes new tarmac, streamlined catering outlets, an AI-powered self-service bar, and improved ticketing and turnstile systems. The aim is to enhance the matchday experience and diversify revenue through non-matchday bookings.
Despite the loss of key players like club captain George Furbank, Dowson believes the squad has approached this season's defence differently compared to their previous attempt two years ago. The club's strong financial position, bolstered by on-field success, has seen season tickets sell out quickly for the third campaign running.
Head coach Sam Vesty, who recently underwent knee surgery, remains energetic in training. The squad's pre-season included a trip to Sri Lanka, which Dowson described as an effort to "engage in something different, have some perspective, and engage with the Sri Lankan culture together."
