Northampton Saints, the defending Prem champions, secured a resounding 71-48 victory over Bath in a high-octane encounter. The match, which saw a total of 119 points racked up, now stands as the second-highest scoring game in the league's history.
Ollie Sleightholme was a standout performer for Northampton, scoring a hat-trick of tries, while teammate Tommy Freeman added two more to the Saints' impressive tally of 11 tries. Bath, despite scoring seven tries themselves, were comfortably beaten in the end.
The game was described as a remarkable contest with defence seemingly an afterthought, featuring 18 tries in total. It follows Northampton's 94-33 win over Bristol in May as another exceptionally high-scoring fixture in the league.
