A Northamptonshire farmer and social media influencer, Milly Fyfe, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King's Birthday Honours. The recognition is for her significant contributions to farming and family nutrition, a development she described as "unbelievable" and "very heartwarming."
Mrs Fyfe, 41, who manages a farm in Yelvertoft with her husband Andrew, has gained prominence through her blog and podcast, which champion British agriculture. A key initiative she founded is The Countryside Kitchen, a programme that provides free 'field to fork' workshops for schools and community groups. These workshops aim to educate participants about food origins by allowing them to engage directly with farm animals, pick fresh ingredients, and prepare meals.
Beyond her educational workshops, Mrs Fyfe is a vocal advocate for supporting British produce and highlighting the demanding nature of farming. She also plays a crucial role in raising awareness about mental health challenges faced by those in the agricultural sector. She emphasised that this award is a testament to the wider community that has supported her initiatives, not solely her individual efforts.
Mrs Fyfe also shared that her dedication to The Countryside Kitchen became a "North star" during her personal struggles with chronic pain, following a spinal injury sustained during childbirth. She explained that there were moments when the future seemed daunting, but her belief in helping families eat better, educating children about food, or reducing isolation among farmers, propelled her forward. She expressed gratitude to her husband and sons, Angus and Dougie, for their unwavering support.
The King's Birthday Honours list acknowledges individuals across the United Kingdom for their achievements and service to the country. Mrs Fyfe's MBE highlights the increasing recognition of those who work to bridge the gap between food production and public understanding, as well as those who champion the welfare of rural communities.
