The letter, signed by Meta, Microsoft, IBM, and Dell, was later joined by OpenAI and SpaceXAI. Huang wrote that 'the world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.'
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman quoted Huang's post and wrote: 'I want the US to win in AI both in open source and proprietary models, and I am glad to see this.' SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk also quoted Huang, saying: 'This has my full support. Jensen is right.'
The Register notes that Nvidia has invested billions in AI startups including OpenAI and Anthropic, and that the Wall Street Journal reported Nvidia may make a $250 billion backstop to help OpenAI lease space in a planned datacenter.
