Ireland's Kate O'Connor has made a strong start to the women's heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, sitting in second place after two events. The 25-year-old, who previously won gold at the Commonwealth Games, is just one point behind Poland's Adrianna Sulek-Schubert, who leads with 2135 points after the morning session.
O'Connor, from Newry, recorded personal bests in both the 100m hurdles, finishing 11th overall with a time of 13:30, and the high jump, clearing 1.86m. Germany's Sophie Weissenberg is in third place with 2074 points.
The heptathlon competition is set to resume this evening. Athletes will compete in the shot put at 19:35 BST, followed by the 200m at 20:55.
