Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, was the target of an attack on Sunday during a campaign stop at the Canfield Fair, campaign officials have stated. An armed assailant lunged at Acton, causing injuries to several people.

The suspect reportedly knocked volunteers to the ground before being arrested and was "discovered to have weapons," according to a statement from Mahoning county Democratic party chairperson Chris Anderson. Acton was not injured in the incident, but campaign officials confirmed that multiple individuals were hurt.

Addie Bullock, communications director for Acton's campaign, expressed gratitude for law enforcement's swift action and offered prayers for the injured. Bullock stated that "This kind of violence has no place in Ohio."

Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who Acton is facing in the November election, called the incident "completely unacceptable." His communications director, Connie Luck, stated that candidates should be able to meet voters without fear of threats or violence. Abdul El-Sayad, Michigan's Democratic US Senate candidate, also condemned the attack, emphasizing that "There's no place for political violence in America."
