Olivia Dean has secured a nomination for the 2026 Mercury Prize, continuing a successful run after her second album, 'The Art of Loving', previously won Album of the Year at both the Brits and Mobo Awards. She is considered among the favourites for the £25,000 prize.
Sir Paul McCartney, at 84, has also received his first-ever Mercury nomination for his album 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane'. Other artists in contention include Suede, Jade, Raye, and Nia Archives.
However, there was a surprise omission for Lily Allen, whose break-up album 'West End Girl' had been a significant critical and commercial success over the past year. The record, which examines the collapse of her marriage to actor David Harbour, was praised for its candour and musical invention.
The shortlisted albums were chosen by a panel of 12 jurists, including 6 Music broadcaster Afrodeutsche and musician Jamie Cullum. The overall winner will be announced at a ceremony at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on 22 October.
