Omagh is paying tribute to long-serving estate agent and auctioneer Alan Porter, who passed away at his home in Knocksilla Park on 2 June at the age of 70, following a period of illness. Mr Porter was a well-known and respected figure in the local property market for many decades, leading the established family firm William Porter and Sons Auctioneers and Estate Agents.
Mr Porter took over the High Street business from his father, continuing a legacy that saw the firm become a cornerstone of Omagh's property sector. He built a strong reputation as a trusted advisor, handling both residential and agricultural property sales. His name became synonymous with property dealings in the town and he was deeply embedded in the wider business community.
Following his passing, a service of thanksgiving for his life was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Omagh, with the burial taking place at Greenhill Cemetery. The services were attended by many who knew him, reflecting his widespread impact.
Former clients, colleagues, and friends have since shared their memories, consistently highlighting his professionalism alongside his personal warmth. Many described him as an approachable and highly respected individual who was widely recognised throughout Omagh. His ability to combine expert knowledge with a personable approach made him a valued figure in the community.
Even after retiring four years ago, Mr Porter remained an active and engaged member of local life. He was a regular attendee at events at Omagh Accies Rugby Club and continued to spend time with friends in the town. His death has been met with considerable sadness across the local community, where he was fondly remembered as one of Omagh's most prominent and cherished property professionals.
