Jeff Bacon, a firearms manufacturer, is seeking to repeal gun laws introduced in New South Wales following the Bondi beach massacre. Bacon, who is the managing director of Oceania Precision, claims that all the rifles he produces are now banned in the state.
Earlier this month, One Nation's NSW leader, Mike Newman, and federal MP Barnaby Joyce announced Bacon would be second on the party's upper house ticket for the March state election. Bacon previously ran as a lower house candidate for Tamworth in 2019 with the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party, and joined the Nationals in 2023 before moving to One Nation.
In December 2025, laws were changed by Labor and the Liberals to limit recreational licence-holders to four firearms and primary producers to 10. The NSW parliament also voted to recategorise weapons, including straight-pull and lever-release rifles, making them unavailable to recreational hunters. NSW is the only state to have signed on to a joint federal government buyback scheme, which is scheduled to begin on 2 November.
Bacon stated on 3 October that he would "do everything that I can do – not only to fight for the repeal of the legislation." He previously told the Northern Daily Leader in January that the government's firearms reforms had led to "every single one" of his rifles being banned in NSW.
