Online forum to address menopause and chronic pain for World Menopause Day

A South Cumbria support group, Menopause Matters, is hosting a free online forum on Sunday for World Menopause Day, focusing on chronic pain at midlife.

  • The online forum will be held on Sunday between 19:00 and 20:00 BST.
  • The event aims to open up conversation around pain and menopause, featuring professionals and people with lived experience.
  • Almost three in four women reportedly experience joint or muscle pain during perimenopause.

Menopause Matters, a South Cumbria support group, is holding a county-wide online forum on Sunday, 18 October 2026, for World Menopause Day. The event, which is free to attend, will focus on chronic pain associated with menopause and perimenopause.

The online session, scheduled from 19:00 to 20:00 BST, is designed as an open conversation rather than a traditional webinar. Participants will include a GP, a pelvic health physiotherapist, a local authority health professional, support group facilitators, and individuals with personal experience of persistent pain.

Leigh Williams, a facilitator for Menopause Matters, stated that she hopes the event will "open up the conversation" around pain and menopause. The International Menopause Society reports that almost three in four women experience joint or muscle pain during perimenopause, and women are up to 70% more likely than men to experience chronic pain generally.

Why this matters: The event aims to provide an outlet and support for women experiencing pain related to menopause and perimenopause, a topic that facilitator Leigh Williams noted some women struggle to discuss or find support for.

What this means for you: Anyone wishing to participate in the free online conversation can reserve a space on the event's booking website.
