The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has today, 8 October 2026, released its latest update on economic activity and social change in the UK, presenting a range of real-time indicators. These indicators are described as early experimental data and analysis, developed using rapid response surveys, novel data sources, and experimental methods.
The published data sets include estimated quantities of automotive fuel demand per average transaction, sourced from ONS calculations and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Daily System Average Prices (SAP) for gas, traded in Great Britain over the On-the-Day Commodity Market, are also included, with data from National Gas Transmission.
Other indicators cover weekly and monthly housing market data for Great Britain, provided by Rightmove, and UK new vehicle registrations and production figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The release also features weekly data on potential redundancies from Insolvency Service HR1 forms, Energy Performance Building Certificates (EPCs) for properties in England and Wales, and Revolut debit card transaction data for the UK.
Further insights are offered through weekly shipping indicators showing ship visits to and from selected UK ports, daily System Prices of electricity in Great Britain from Elexon, and daily UK flight numbers from EUROCONTROL. Additionally, weekly and monthly retail footfall data for the UK, split by location category and region, is included, sourced from BT Active Intelligence.
