ONS releases new real-time UK economic and social indicators

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published new experimental data on economic activity and social change in the UK, covering areas such as shipping, electricity prices, and retail footfall.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has today, 27 August 2026, released early experimental data and analysis on economic activity and social change in the UK. These real-time indicators are created using rapid response surveys, novel data sources, and experimental methods.

The new data includes weekly shipping indicators, showing ship visits to and from selected UK ports. Daily data on the System Price of electricity and the System Average Price (SAP) of gas in Great Britain are also available.

Further indicators cover weekly and monthly data related to the housing market in Great Britain, potential redundancies from Insolvency Service HR1 forms, and daily UK flight numbers. The release also includes weekly numbers of Energy Performance Building Certificates (EPCs) for domestic properties in England and Wales, Revolut debit card transaction data, and UK retail footfall figures.
