ONS to publish new real-time UK economic and social indicators

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is releasing new experimental data today, 1 October 2026, focusing on real-time indicators of economic activity and social change across the UK. These indicators are derived from rapid response surveys, novel data sources, and experimental methods.

The new data includes weekly insights into shipping activity at selected UK ports, estimated automotive fuel demand, and retail footfall across various locations and regions. Additionally, weekly and monthly housing market data for Great Britain will be provided by Rightmove.

Daily data will cover the System Price of electricity and the System Average Price of gas in Great Britain. Information on daily UK flight numbers, including those to, from, and within the UK, will also be published. The release further includes weekly data on potential redundancies and Energy Performance Building Certificates for properties in England and Wales.
