OpenAI alleges employee leaked unreleased product plans to Apple

OpenAI has accused a former employee, now at Apple, of leaking over 100 files about an unreleased product and presenting them to Apple leadership, delaying a court showdown.

  • OpenAI alleges a former employee sent over 100 files about an unreleased product to a personal account before joining Apple.
  • The employee reportedly made a presentation about the unreleased product to senior Apple leadership months ago.
  • Apple denies the allegations, stating it has found no evidence to support OpenAI's claims.

A new filing in the ongoing lawsuit between OpenAI and Apple alleges that an OpenAI employee, who subsequently moved to Apple, sent more than 100 files concerning an unreleased product to a personal account. OpenAI claims this individual later presented information about the unreleased product to senior Apple leadership.

The filing, made in US federal court in San Jose, California, suggests the presentation occurred months ago. OpenAI expressed concern that its trade secrets and confidential information are now circulating within Apple, potentially influencing Apple's upcoming products, citing the recent release of Apple’s HomeView product.

Apple has stated it has policies to prevent new employees from using confidential information from previous employers and has found no evidence to support OpenAI's allegations. The new claim delayed a scheduled court appearance between the two companies on Wednesday.

This development is part of an existing trade secret dispute initiated by Apple earlier this year, in which Apple alleged its own employees took confidential information to OpenAI's hardware division. OpenAI has denied those earlier allegations.
