OpenAI is reportedly in discussions with investors to secure at least $30 billion in a pre-IPO funding round, which could value the company at approximately $1.4 trillion, according to Bloomberg. This potential funding round is anticipated to be a bridge to its public market debut, now expected next year.
The company's run-rate revenue has reportedly increased by 70% since July, reaching $40 billion in August, following a strategic refocus on areas such as coding. OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation.
CEO Sam Altman has reportedly ruled out a 2026 public debut, stating a priority on AI safety. He recently told Fortune, in response to warnings from safety researchers, that it is "unacceptable to be taking like a 10% chance of killing everybody by the end of the decade."
