OpenAI has reportedly told investors that its annualised revenue is approaching $50 billion. This figure is said to be $20 billion lower than a previously reported estimate of $70 billion.
The Financial Times reports that the AI lab shared the updated revenue figure with investors. The earlier $70 billion figure was based on information previously shared by OpenAI with investors and was reportedly an attempt by OpenAI's investors to compare it directly with Anthropic's annualised revenues.
OpenAI and Anthropic calculate their annualised revenue differently, with Anthropic including sales made by its cloud partners, a practice OpenAI does not follow. Earlier this year, OpenAI's leaked 2025 financials reportedly showed the company made approximately $13 billion but spent significantly more. The company's initial public offering (IPO), previously rumoured for this year, has reportedly been postponed until early 2027.
