Orban's Tottenham move collapsed over £25m fee in 2023

Tottenham's pursuit of striker Gift Orban in 2023 stalled due to a £25m fee, despite his impressive goalscoring record at the time. Orban has since played for four clubs and joined Amedspor on loan last week.

Tottenham's bid to sign prolific Nigerian striker Gift Orban in the summer of 2023 ultimately fell through due to a disagreement over the £25m transfer fee. At the time, Orban, then 21, was considered a top prospect after scoring 16 goals in 22 games for Stabaek and 20 goals in 22 matches for Gent.

Orban's impressive form included a record-breaking hat-trick in three minutes and 25 seconds in the Conference League in March 2023. With Harry Kane set to join Bayern Munich, Spurs, under new boss Ange Postecoglou, were reportedly seeking a replacement striker.

However, the deal did not materialise. In the three years since, Orban has moved between four clubs, most recently joining newly-promoted Turkish side Amedspor on loan last week. He scored three goals for Gent in 2023-24, three for Lyon, four for Hoffenheim, and seven for Verona on loan last season.
