The Outer Hebrides, a remote part of Scotland, is experiencing the emergence of new local businesses. Among these is Stornoway Distillers, which has opened in Stornoway and is run by husband and wife duo Gez and Nat. They produce gin using foraged ingredients from the Hebrides and conduct workshops from their distillery.
Another new venture is the Saltbox Sauna on Horgabost Beach, set up by local couple Neil and Norma MacLeod. Their aim was to introduce their international wild swimming community to the Outer Hebrides, with Norma noting that the area's views are comparable to, or better than, those in Iceland.
The region also features other new food establishments, including the Italian pop-up Blasta Pasta on Harris, which reportedly sells out weekly, and the Crust pizza restaurant, which operates from a shipping container a short drive from Stornoway.
