More than 100 landlords from Essex and Suffolk participated in an online briefing regarding the Renters' Rights Act. The session, hosted by estate and lettings agency Boydens, addressed new requirements and changes to possession rules.
The webinar focused on alterations affecting the private rented sector, such as the shift to rolling periodic tenancies, the removal of Section 21 evictions, restrictions on rental bidding, and changes to rent increases. Landlords at the event reportedly expressed apprehension about compliance and the procedures for regaining property possession when issues arise.
Philip Boyden, managing director of Boydens, stated that 110 landlords attended the webinar, noting a clear sense of nervousness among many regarding the changes, particularly in meeting the increased compliance levels introduced by the Act. Discussions also included insurance options to mitigate risks like lost rental income, court costs, and the time involved in possession proceedings.
