Over 60,000 rural homes and businesses across Lincolnshire and Yorkshire have gained access to faster, more reliable broadband through the UK Government’s Project Gigabit. This initiative aims to improve connectivity for work, study, and daily life in these areas.
Communities benefiting include villages surrounding Barnsley, Huddersfield, Hull, Bradford, York, Boston, and Wisbech. Specific locations such as Winterton in North Lincolnshire, Fosdyke in Lincolnshire, and Sessay and Linton on Ouse in Yorkshire are among the latest to be connected, with more areas being added weekly.
Quickline, a firm involved in the rollout, has supported over 1,700 young people in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) through workshops. Additionally, more than 130 people from Yorkshire and Lincolnshire have gained hands-on experience via Quickline’s apprenticeship programme, a direct outcome of the £127 million the company received through Project Gigabit.
Minister of State at the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport, Ian Murray, stated that good broadband provides families, workers, and local businesses with the necessary tools to succeed, regardless of their location. Mark Bowden, Quickline CEO, highlighted that the company's full fibre network now reaches approximately 260,000 premises across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
