A recent cyber attack on Oxford University's career platform has exposed the personal data of students. The breach, which occurred on May 25, is unrelated to the previous data breach in January, when the university's student records were compromised.
According to a statement from the university, the breach occurred when an attacker exploited a vulnerability in the career platform's software. The attacker gained access to the platform and was able to view and download the personal data of around 1,500 students.
The compromised data includes students' names, dates of birth, and contact information. However, the university stated that no financial information or academic records were accessed during the breach.
Following the breach, the university has taken steps to secure the platform and has notified affected students. The incident is being investigated by the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Experts have warned that cyber attacks on education institutions are becoming increasingly common and highlight the need for better security measures to protect sensitive data.
Dr. Emma Williams, a cybersecurity expert at the University of Cambridge, stated: 'Cyber attacks on education institutions are a growing concern. It's essential that institutions take proactive steps to protect sensitive data and educate students on online safety.'
The incident raises concerns about the security of online platforms used by educational institutions and the potential risks of data breaches.
